St. Patrick's Day Fun & A Winner!!!

Yesterday I was trying to prep a snack for the kiddos today. I wanted it to be simple, *cheap*, and fun! 

I found these on Pinterest.

So I tried it. LOL. Not as pretty as in the picture but fun and good!

I took them to work and my TA bought green juice. So this afternoon, we took a walk to see if we could find Pat (the leprechaun) and came back to this....

It was fun. They loved it...especially the chairs knocked over and the items left for them.

Leprechaun Traps & a Giveaway

I've had my students make leprechaun traps before...but never like this. The last time was for a formal observation...yes I said a formal observation. Principal, TA, intern, and myself all in the room while students worked in groups to build a trap.

This year, I wanted my students to complete this at home. I'm not a real big fan of homework---lack of paper, doesn't ever get returned, waste of paper, maybe one or 5 students actually complete it.....but family projects....are a little different. 

I sent home a sheet I created about this...you can grab it by clicking on the picture below. 

 

It explains everything....and the blanks are for you to fill in the leprechaun's name (Ours is named Pat!) and the date it is due. It also comes with a writing sheet.

I couldn't believe the response. Out of 20 kids (yes that's a magnificent number of students---past 5 years it's been 25 or more) I had 16 returned..and one is coming in on Monday!

I was so excited. The students had to write about it and explain it to the class during presentations. We were so excited because just the imagination and creativity of these traps were awesome. And when they presented---I was surprised at the explanations of some of them.

 Aren't these great!!!??? I loved how they could explain how they worked and each one was so different!

The one below---quote from the kiddo "the leprechaun is playing over here and oh wow...he sees the path....follows it and find the gold! Shut goes the lid and he is trapped!" 

The gold hides the hole. Leprechaun falls in and is trapped! (All I could smell was chocolate! :)

  

And then this guy walked in late...and we all said...whoa. Here he is explaining how it works. 

 

Up close. (The leprechaun hanging from the parachute is "sneaky" and the other leprechaun PLAYED MUSIC AND DANCED!!!! Can you believe it?? He was the distraction I think he said!

 

So much fun. I think Pat would be very impressed when he comes to "visit" again on Monday. I think treats may be in order for these hard workers.

March Currently & March Family Project

Don't you hate it when you have TONS of pictures that you took of a really awesome activity and you get home and you didn't save them!?! Grr....I'll have to blog tomorrow about our final Black History project that we did last week. It was soooo fun! And turned out great!

But it's March now. Currently Time!
I love Farley's new design!!! Especially the colors!

 

Yes--I am a fan of The Walking Dead. Who knew?! It all started when the hubs and I could NOT figure out what the big deal about this whole zombie thing was. Until last year--a day of nothing on TV, it was raining and gloomy. So let's look at Netflix----well let's try out one episode. Which led into the first two seasons watched that entire week. Hooked. Yes. 

 I did nothing today. Battling a horrific headache since last night. So nothing today. 

 I take that back---I did walk the dog because it was 70 degrees today. B-E-A-Utiful!! Tomorrow will start off in the 60s and be in the 30s by lunch. Ugh. Over it!

I'm wanting some new shoes. Particularly navy or black.

And I need to finish some projects that I've started. And the ones that are in my head that I haven't quite begun yet. 

Burlap, hot glue, paint. Whatcha think?


This month I wanted to do a fun family project. I hate homework. I give it to the kids. It never gets returned, the parents do it for them, and the list goes on. But when I do a family project....it's soooo much better!! And a lot less paper! ;)

So our project this month is of course---building a leprechaun trap. I did this one year for an OBSERVATION! With an intern. Oh my goodness----it was sooo fun! So why not let the parents get involved.

In our room--our little guy is named Pat. He's been around for years. I talk about him a lot. And then stuff seems to happen (kinda like with Charlie---our Elf on the Shelf). 

Here's the letter I'm sending home as well as the writing paper. I left it blank in the area for the name, as well as for the date you would want it returned.

I really enjoy St. Patrick's Day. In our classroom, my little leprechaun friend named "Pat" likes to cause quite a bit of mischief leading up to the big day. I talk about leprechauns and we read books and then I begin discussing "Pat". I talk about how he likes to run around and hide in the school, finding classrooms and chair pockets that are not neat and make it even more messy!

The kiddos then begin to "spot" him all over the school as we are traveling to different areas. It causes quite a stir but seems to help with behavior. "Pat" only visits classrooms and leaves treats (sometimes) for those little ones who are on their best. 

In the past, he has made quite a mess in the room but did leave us some "magic" pudding that began white but turned green as milk was poured in. I haven't introduced "Pat" yet to the kiddos this year but I plan on doing this next week. We shall see what he has in store for this class! :)

Quick post

I feel like a terrible blogger....I'm so tired, exhausted, worn out...what other words are there?? Hmm...anyway---kiddos are dropping like flies at school with various forms of the crud, flu, etc. Grad school is wearing me out and so are assessments....

Does anyone feel like that's all you do? Assess?? Geez...how many times do I have to have them count to me in one day? a week? I know they can count.....I shouldn't have to write it 5 different ways.

So I sure haven't blogged lately...I haven't offered up freebies....new products.....ugh...

Oh well....I will blog about an awesome giveaway that my friend Khrys is having over at Keepin' It Kool in Kinderland.
