Our Thanksgiving Feast, Sales, & Bundles!

We had a great time Tuesday celebrating Thanksgiving with our neighboring classmates. The girls were Native Americans and the boys were Pilgrims. They enjoyed juice, popcorn, and muffins. And of course we finished it off watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

We also had fun making Turkey Patterns from my November Fun Pack. The kiddos loved using cubes to make their patterns and then transfer it to their pattern book.

 

And you know how everyone is playing all of those bump games? Well I thought how fun it would be to play it in well....large format. So I created a Roll & Bump mat out of butcher paper. The students used two large blow up dice to roll. I put them into two teams and they would roll and count the number of dots (little did they know they were adding) and would cover the number they rolled.

If they rolled what the other team rolled, they could bump them off.

They loved this game!!

Thanksgiving Freebies and Station Rotation

It's almost the end of November and I have finally figured out a way to do a station rotation in my classroom that I LOVE! I'm using it for my Literacy Groups and Math Groups and it really works. It's just taking me some getting use to but the kiddos are all like ''let's do this!"

In fact, after the many years of teaching, I think I have finally found something that works. Hopefully it'll keep working! ;)

Here's a picture of the pocket chart (please don't mind their names---this was a quick put together and I'm still working on how to display their names without it looking so jumbled). The OCD in me is bothered by it but I'll figure that part out.

Basically, here's how it goes down. In the morning I do my literacy rotations. So the right side of the pocket chart displays their groups (the groups were able to pick their own group name) and then there are letters in orange. Each letter represents a particular station in the classroom. 
 
For example, letter L is the computers, G is the reading station, D is writing, etc. I (thank goodness) have only 23 kiddos this year (the past few years it's been upwards to 28 or so) so these stations will last 3 weeks!!!! I only do stations Tuesday-Friday b/c Monday is our block day.

These hold activities from my November Fun Pack (beginning sound sort and Pilgrim ABC order) as well as syllable practice and although you can't see it, one letter is a clipboard for write the room. You can see one of the cards hanging up though.  I'll post more later about what is in each station (for math and reading).

 
I just move the letters down instead of their names to the station they would go to each day. I love this. The kiddos love this. My IA loves this. Life is good.

Same concept for math. I just chose numbers obviously for the stations and that's what they do.

Roll a dice games, counting out chips for ten frame practice, another write the room for math, and geoboards are just a few of the activities in these stations. Again these will last for 3 weeks as well.

Stuffed with Thankful Thoughts and a freebie

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a week away. Whew---is anyone else overwhelmed??? I feel like we just had Halloween and how am I supposed to cram all the awesome stuff I have now for Thanksgiving into like 4 days??? 

Ugh. Oh well. I'm linking up with Lyndsey over at A Year of Many Firsts for my thankful thoughts---wow I have so much to be thankful for.

1. My Savior---without Him, I'd be nowhere, with Him--all things are possible.

2. My awesome hubby!! We've been through some awesome, crazy, horrible, and words can not describe stuff in the past 10 years we've been together. It's amazing what God can do in a marriage and I couldn't ask for a better hubby or best friend!

3. My crazy dog....we lost our first fur baby last year so it was hard to get another one. But we love him...even though he can drive me N.U.T.S!

4. My friends (who rock!) and my family (who rock too!). 

5. A great job teaching a grade level that I love.

6. And doing this blogging thing---what an amazing way to "meet" so many awesome people.

7. My church and my church family---it's like a home away from home.

I'm so thankful for so many things that I can not begin to express all of them on here. And of course I'm thankful to all of my followers. So here's a little freebie for you. I've just learned how to make a document editable (so I hope this works!!).

Wow---a winner's week!!!

First of all---I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the veteran's out there, those who have served, are currently serving, and those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I have a lot of friends who are military and many family members who have served or who are overseas right now. Thank you again!!

Ok---wow it's been a week of winnings! First of all--I won Kristin's giveaway over at A Teeny Tiny Teacher (who by the way--if you have not read her blog--is absolutely hilarious!!!) I won her math anchor charts---I'm so excited to be able to use them with my small math groups. It comes with black and white copies as well as colored, and I'm thinking I'll use the colored posters above my small group table. I really think these will help my low level students gain a better understanding of number concepts.

Turkey Time!

Just a quick post---I've uploaded a couple of things to TPT about turkeys. I'm still working on my November Fun pack (it's formatted like the Pumpkin and Owl Fun Pack--if you downloaded that be looking for the November one by this weekend hopefully!)

Five Little Turkey Book-----It's about 5 little turkeys who are strutting about on the farm when one notices something weird and the others realize they smell pie and they need to run and hide. It also comes with picture cards so that students can retell the story.

To finish up Fire Prevention this month, our neighboring fire station brought over Sparky and Freddie the Fire Truck.

Here is Freddie and Sparky (they talk!!) The kids loved him!

The firefighters were explaining the gear that they wear and how not to be afraid. (It was sooo cold--thanks Hurricane Sandy and the winter weather for a wonderful mess everyone is having!)

I just finished a couple of Thanksgiving Activities. So I thought I'd pass along a freebie and   show off the other activity.
