Five For Friday

It's been a long time since I linked up to Doodle Bugs Teaching--Five for Friday posts. I'm all kinds of excited (ok, I'm all kinds of tired) that I took pictures this week! :)  There may even be a freebie located somewhere in this post.

Make sure you head over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for another round of Five for Friday.

Started this week off at the beach with the hubs.....

Had my first formal observation of the year this week---she observed my small group reading time. We were reading the book A House and practicing the word here (no I did not take a picture during my observation---I did after! ;)

We also sang the Parts of a Story song by Heidi Songs. Love this song!! It helped us work on character and setting.

We played a sight word game in my small group this week. I used my word wall words and students were given rings that were spiders, skulls, and bats. Each one was a different color. If I called out a word and they could read it, they used their ring to cover that word up.
Just a quick little informal assessment and they had fun!

We played Spin & Cover Ghost---this one was letters a-p. Students spin the spinner and used mini erasers to cover up the letter that they landed on.
Grab it here. It's a freebie! (Leave some love if you do!)

We also played this game---students had to toss the bat and land on a number. They read the number they landed on (the bats look kind of creepy on the floor don't they!??)

The littles have been working on the sight word see and color words. So this is one activity they have been practicing from my Spiders--Math and Literacy Unit.

Happy Friday!!

Bat-filled Saturday....Beach Style & A Surprise Sale!!!

Yes, the title said it correctly...I'm at the beach. The hubs has a new job (thanks to the good Lord!) and is actually off now on the weekends. Our friend lives down at the beach so we came down today to enjoy a gorgeous weekend (haven't seen the sun in like 5 days---until today!!!)

So here's my view as I write this post....Pretty isn't it?

I haven't blogged in forever..so I thought I'd catch you up a little on what we've been doing this week. I didn't take as many pics as I wanted, I never do, I'll get better at it---eventually.

My favorite time of year....October---bats, spiders, and pumpkins, OH MY!! This week was all about bats....

Of course we began by reading books about bats...Here are a few of my favorites...

I have another non-fiction bat book but can't locate a picture of it but I bought it at a Scholastic Book Fair a few years ago. Great pictures...I'll try to remember to take a picture of the book when I get back to school.

We completed a Venn Diagram about bats and birds after reading Stellaluna (who doesn't love this book???)

You can find the source here.

Then of course a tree map. (Disclaimer---I am NOT an artist! LOL)

And we watched Stellulana being read by Pamela Reed on Schooltube.

Then we watched a few videos about the Flying Fox Bat (he is awesome--hehe I love bats) on YouTube. (***Be careful---one youtube video said the bat was going to go ape s***) I cut it off before he finished talking so the kiddos didn't hear it but seriously.....craziness.

Here is a video about the Flying Fox that we watched.

And it was a little chilly this week---so I pulled out the Halloween socks.
Not sure why my feet look swollen. LOL

Here's a cute Spider and Bats Freebie from Kindergarten Lifestyle that we will be using this week as well.
Click on the picture to grab it up.

Listening---To a Hallmark movie. I never watch these but I'm the only one home and I need some background noise! :)

Loving---The weather! It has been absolutely gorgeous here the past two weeks. Beautiful fall weather (of course it'll be 87 on Friday--but who cares!)

Thinking---I should go ahead and do next week's lesson plans.....we shall see.

Wanting---I'm ready for Friday. My hubs will be home then after being gone ALL week long. He finally got a new job!! Woohooo and has been in training out of town this week...of course he will have to be gone next week too, but at least I'll see him this weekend.

Needing---Nothing...pretty blessed.
